We would like to introduce everyone to George- named by Danika herself! He is our new friend for the holiday season. And yes, he is an original "Elf on the Shelf". I had been hearing about Elf on the Shelf each year since Danika was born, and always thought it was cute.
This year, all over the internet, I was seeing Different things to do with these Elves. I honestly thought, you got one, and put it on your shelf. But, that is not the case. You see, each night when the kids fall asleep- George flies back to the North Pole to report to "the Boss" about how their day was. Then, when he comes back- he plays a trick on the kids. Also, during the day- to remind them he is still here, he moves all over the house. There is one rule though- you can NOT touch George, if you do, he loses his magical powers and can't tell Santa how your day was.
George will be with us until Christmas Eve. When he hears Santa's bells, he flies home until Next year, when he will join our family again.
I have to say- I wasn't sure this was going to work on these kids. But, I thought he was cute, and my great friend Andrea was the one that bought them, so, why not give it a try. Brett, well, he thinks everything is a gimmick! BUT- guess who is most into it (well besides the kids)? Him! Brett moves him at every chance he gets. The kids think that George is SO tricky. He has been in so many places since his arrival. AND- he does work! Every time they start to act up, we ask them where George is, they immediately stop what they are doing, and go look for him. Then, the laughter and excitement come back to them!
Saturday morning, our Elf was on the breakfast table when we got up. He had made Breakfast, wrote the kids a letter and brought a book for them to read, all about him. All week, I had been talking about the Elf on the Shelf. I told the kids that I had written to Santa, because I heard that he was handing out Elves to live with families and help him watch the kids for the season, so I asked for one for our house. I told them I wasn't sure if we would get one. So, when Danika came down the stairs she saw him on the table, turned to us and said, "You have got to be kidding me! Santa sent us an Elf!" She was so excited!
So, Saturday, George made us breakfast. We had snow covered breakfast buns (cinnamon buns with icing), Christmas coloured snow balls (green grapes), Elf sized Christmas oranges, and Christmas coloured M&Ms! The kids got to read the book that George brought them, as well as the letter. He hid many places on Saturday and again today. But, when the kids went to bed last night, he was up on the ledge, making sure they went to sleep, so he could be on his way to the North Pole to talk to Santa. Then this morning, we saw him on the shelf in the living room. He was sitting in a box of M&M's with the tv remote, and a kleenex for a blanket!
As silly as it is, and seems, George is a welcome addition to our family! A Great tradition that we will carry on for years. All 4 of us are getting into this, and it is starting the Christmas spirit around here!

Today is Sunday- and yes, we are all in our PJ's and the slow cooker is going! It is smelling so good! Tonight we are trying another recipe from pinterest- it is Crock Pot Creamy Chicken Chili (say that three times fast!). Here is the recipe!
2 FROZEN Chicken Breasts
1 can of chili tomatoes
1 can of corn- do not drain (I used frozen though)
1 can of black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 pkg of Ranch mix (although I can never find this at the store- so I used some dressing)
1 tbsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder (I guessed on both of these, because, well I usually do- I go by smell)
1 tsp onion powder (I used about 1/2 cup of chopped onions)
1 cup of cream cheese
Put the chicken in the crock pot. In a bowl, combine all other ingredients (not including the cream cheese). Mix that and then pour over the chicken. Add the cream cheese on top!
Cook on Low for 6-8 hours, stir a couple of times during that time. Shred the chicken (I did this with about 1.5 hours to go), then serve over rice!
