Baby steps to recovery=HUGE steps for mommy

This was a great weekend. I had many accomplishments and was so proud of myself. Being proud of myself made me feel better, BUT, watching Danika's eyes as she watched me do some of these things I haven't done in months made me feel all better!

On Saturday, we packed up the kids and headed on a road trip. We don't do it often- but should. We were driving up to Edmonton for 3 reasons- 1- to visit my cousin and her family, 2- to pick up some frags for Bretts tank, and 3- because we all deserved a day off!

We had a great time with Jessica, Murray and Zach. Thanks again guys for a wonderful day. Zach and Danika got along great, and had a wonderful time. Jessica and I had a great visit- and Brett and Murray got some time to talk about what ever guys talk about! We had an amazing lunch, wonderful weather, an all around good day!

We weren't even 5 minutes from their house and both kids were asleep- fast asleep. So when we got to the house where Brett was picking up his frags- me and the sleeping kids stayed in the truck! Bryce woke up- and tried to get Danika to wake up, but it didn't work- she was tired! She woke up in gasoline alley while we were picking up dinner! (oh, so she didn't go to bed until 10:30!)

Sunday we had a great day. It started with Brett cleaning the church early, then taking us all to Smitty's for Breakfast. While he was in the shower, I dressed both kids! I have dressed Danika many times since I got sick- but not Bryce. I was so happy. Then at the restaurant we got to sit at the fish tank- which the kids loved. (so did Brett). I had to lift Danika into her chair- haven't done that since I got sick either. She kept thanking me! We had a great breakfast there, then stopped at wal-mart to get stuff for supper.

When we got home we cleaned up the house a bit. Danika and I put on some music and danced while we cleaned the living room. Watching her eyes as I helped her clean toys while dancing, made me realize- I can do this! After we cleaned, we woke Bryce up and went to the park. Bryce had his first swing experience- he wasn't sure! We played there for a bit, then headed home for lunch. I got the kids their lunch, then helped clean up from lunch. Bryce went down for a nap, and the three of us headed out to our backyard to tackle that.

It took awhile- but the yard is cleaned up. It felt so good to sit out there- I hadn't ever been out there. When that was done Danika needed a bath- and guess who gave her one- ME- for the first time since probably October! Again, both her and I were amazed.

Oma and Papa came for a great dinner- ribs, corn on the cob, potatoes, carrots, pickles and beets. Then the kids went to bed, I had a warm bath and headed for bed myself- I was tired after doing all of this stuff.

I am very proud of myself, and although it doesn't sound like much, for someone trying to recover like this- it is a TON of work. Just to walk from the house to the truck is a ton of work. But it is very rewarding to know I can do some of these things. It is so hard to watch life pass you by on the couch- but it is scary to get up and try some of these things. I told myself that I HAVE to do something new each day- it will make recovery easier and faster. It is also better now that the weather is warmer and I can get out more. And it also makes it easier when you have a cheering squad- Brett was so proud, and Danika- well she is my personal cheerleader, and I am so happy to have that!
