Introducing

My mothers day present.

This is Sugar Bear (Sugar). She is a 2 year old Blue Heeler cross. And she is amazing!

Brett finally caved and agreed to getting a dog. But, we had decided to get an older dog, so we wouldn't have as much of the training/puppy issues. We also talked and thought we would get one when myself and the kids return from BC in June- so he wouldn't be here dealing with new dog issues!

Well, Friday night we were looking on the SPCA's website, when Brett asked if a dog would be a good mothers day present- I, of course, said yes. So, we planned to go over on Saturday morning to have a look.

On Saturday morning, we got the kids ready, without saying anything, and headed over to the SPCA. We looked around and narrowed it down to 3 dogs- 2 of which ended up being on holds, and the other had some issues with kids- so that wouldn't do. The lady we were talking to had us fill in a questionare, and then she matched us up. So, we went into the room to meet with Dakota, a black lab. Well, she was HUGE. Brett and I told them that she would not do, because we live in a townhouse!

Upon talking to a different girl, she suggested Suga Bear (yes that is the name they gave her there!). We went into a room again to meet with her. Immediately there was a bond. She was licking the kids, cuddling us. She even sat and laid down when asked. She was perfect. Bryce was even showing her his spiderman shoes- by putting his foot in her face and saying "puppy, look my spider shoes" and she didn't do anything but look!

We spent our half hour with her and then had to go because Brett had a meeting. But, we put a hold on her, so no one else could get here, and we had time to get the house ready. She was great, and we were excited to learn that she could come home on Mothers Day!

We had a few things to do that day, so in the evening Danika and I headed out to wal-mart to get some dog things. Danika got to pick the leash and collar, and some toys. She was so excited! (So was I)

Sunday morning we were up and ready to go bring her home. We did all the paperwork, and then the lady went to get her. She was so excited to see us again! She jumped right into the truck, and got into the middle. She sat so nice on the ride home.

On the way into the house, she pooped. Yes, I really am sharing this, because...Brett picked it up. The one that we had to convince to get a dog had jumped right into dog ownership!

Bringing her home was great. You would think that she has been with us forever. She is so well trained, I feel bad for the family who lost her, but they were notified- (she was found on the highway, with a collar, but the SPCA said no one came in to get her!) But, I am happy we have her. She is so well trained, she walks great on a leash- Danika usually is the one walking her! She sits, lays down, comes, doesn't mooch at the table. Only pees in the yard- she poops on walks only- which is GREAT because the yard is clean! She sleeps in our room on a blanket on the floor.

We did buy her a variety of toys- she ONLY likes tennis balls. Even if we throw one of the kids balls, she will not go get it. The kids can have toys out all day, and she doesn't even pick them up! She also only likes the soft treats, which is nice, they are cheaper, and come in resealable bags!

I could go on and on about her, she is just great. We all love her- well most of us, Dexi isn't sure yet, but in time they will be fine! Even Brett has admitted to liking her! And the kids- well the kids are so excited, they are always playing with her, talking to her, cuddling her! They feed her her food, give her water, and treats. Danika even wants to pick up poop on the walk. I have told her not until she is bigger because her hands are too small to get it all! (I am sure once she is able, she wont want too!)

Here is a video Brett shot on her first day here, doing what she loves to do...
