Dinosaurs!

This past weekend Brett had another marathon to run- well, this one was just a half- but, it was in Drumheller, so he wanted to do it. He read that the terrain was pretty crazy- and it was apparently!

Anyways, we booked the hotel, and made our plans before summer even started. Sort of a last weekend away before things get colder, and crazier!

Saturday morning, we drove up to Drumheller, and picked up Brett's race package, and then headed over to the Tyrell Museum. The kids LOVED the museum (okay, Danika got a bit bored with it closer to the end, but she still liked it). Bryce was over the moon! He was so happy to see all the dinosaurs, learn their names and things about them!

When we were done looking through the museum, Brett decided to get them something from the gift shop. Danika picked out a brick of "sand" that she can dig out gems from (yeah, fun for her- HUGE mess for me! But, it is cool). And Bryce found his item right as we turned the corner into the gift shop- a light saber dinosaur style- it has a Triceratops head on the handle of it. The whole thing glows blue- he loves it!

After we were done at the museum we went over to climb up the Worlds Tallest Dinosaur. The kids thought that was very cool! The made the walk up the many, many stairs to look out of his mouth! Bryce kept asking if we were in his throat!

Once we were done there, we went to check into the hotel. If you are in Drumheller, stay at the Super 8. Great Service, Great rooms and pool- with water slide! They also have the best continental Breakfast I have ever seen! When we checked in there was Oatmeal Raisin cookies, apples and oranges for us. We took a couple and headed to our room.

Once we finished our snack, we got our bathing suits on and headed to the pool. The kids saw the water slide and immediately wanted to go on it. So, up we went. Bryce went down first- and Oops! It was FAST! And Dark. He was crying at the end- and Danika wouldn't go. Once I went down, I was shocked. After that, Brett and I used the slide, and the kids swam and used the hot tub! Near the end of our time at the pool, Brett took the kids down on his knees- and they loved that, even with the big splash in their face at the end!

Once we were dry and changed, we went over to Boston Pizza- and WOW- what horrible service. We saw a couple complaining when we came in, but didn't think anything of it. Then we sat down. The waitress told Brett that they don't have a certain drink that he has at all BPs- then we found it in the menu when we looked later. She asked me if TEA has alcohol in it? WHAT!? So, I had to explain- hot water and a tea bag! Then even after I had to POINT at the items that we wanted in the menu- she got mine and the kids wrong- like completely! She didn't come by the table at all- so we just ate it. When we left, we had to just go up to the front, because she hadn't even come back to give us the bill, I talked to the manager, who ended up throwing our receipt in the garbage! He told me that was the 6th time he had done that that night- so not to worry about it.

Once we were back in the hotel, we all settled in to watch some tv, and after a long, fun day, even Brett and I were asleep by 9:30!

Sunday morning we woke up and went down for breakfast- the kids had waffles (made right there, they had waffle mix and a waffle iron), I had stuffed french toast. Danika also had a muffin, and Bryce and I had yogurt. We took some fruit for snack, and some for Brett (he doesn't eat much before a run). We headed over to the museum to the start of the race. Once Brett started running we went up by the museum to the playground.

Up the hill at the playground, we saw the sign- CLOSED. And then under it it said that it would be closed in increment weather- WHAT?! It was nice out! I pulled out my phone and looked up other things to do in drumheller on a sunday! But, nothing opened until 10 or later, and Brett would be done his run before 11. Finally, a guy came and opened the playground! (It really was all locked up, doors over the entrances).

So, then the kids played for just over and hour and then we headed down to the finish line, getting there just in time to see Brett cross the finish line!

We let him wipe off, stretch and then we grabbed some lunch and got on the road to come home! We were home before 2!

It was a great, fun filled weekend!
