Surgery

Well yesterday was the big day. They day one pain stopped and another began- but the new pain should be gone within a week- then the old pain will be gone for good!

I have been suffering with gall stones. I had this pain when I was pregnant with Danika- thought I was having a heart attack! Then it was gone. Then back while I was pregnant with Bryce, again, I didn't know what it was- just assumed some pregnancy thing- again! BUT after he was born it didn't go away- it got worse.

First I thought it was from greasy food (that I shouldn't eat anyways). But then I figured out there is more. It was greasy food, if I ate too fast, if I waited to long to eat, and anything carbonated. I have been trying to lose the pregnancy weight (almost lost all of it from Bryce and then back to what I still needed to lose after Danika!)- but couldn't because I HAD to eat or be in horrible pain. I was getting really upset by this.

So, I finally had enough, went to the dr to get diagnosed. Did a HORRIBLE test- basically an x-ray of your stomach area- but they give you some nasty stuff to drink- and you have to do it in one breath! After about 3 weeks I got the results- at the end of August- YEP gall stones. The next step- to wait to get in and see the surgeon.

I couldn't take the pain at the end of September, and contemplated going to ER. BUT- finally heard back- I had an appt on September 30th! YEAH. So I went to see him and we decided the gall bladder would come out. I was relieved because I was having this pain at least once a day at this point- no matter what I did- even holding Bryce brought it on.

At that point I still didn't know when I got to go in. I finally heard while I was out visiting mom that I would go in on the 26th.

Once I got back, I got everything done to get ready, EKG, chest x-ray, and blood work.

Then in I went yesterday. I was scheduled for surgery at 10:30- and had to be there for 8:30. Sharon (thankfully) was able to come and watch the kids! (which we love her for!). We left at 7:15. Got there, got admitted and changed and then waited. I was getting so hungry- since I couldn't eat or drink from midnight the night before (and actually didn't have anything after 10). At about 2:45 they took us down to our area. We waited again. Then talked to the dr (who answered Bretts questions), and the anesthesiologist. Then the nurse came over to get me, I said good- bye to Brett and headed down the hall.

The nurse was very nice, she had her arm around me, talked to me the whole way down- then the anesthesiologist talked to me while he was doing my IV- they then gave me some "fresh air"- I remember thinking "I wonder if this is THE stuff"- then I was out.

I woke up in recovery- having a hot flash- then threw up! YAY- what fun. After they were sure I would be okay- I got moved up to the unit. Got settled there, then Brett came back in. I was doing good- until I got up to go to the washroom. I got dizzy, and felt sick again. So I got back in bed- and calmed down. Then I ate some jell-o- not much because I didn't feel well.

Brett left, and I had a long night! I couldn't sleep well- but was feeling way better. I got up in the morning and felt great. They let me eat, and get ready to go home.

Once at home- well we had some adjustments to make. Danika is really missing her mommy cuddle time- and mommy is missing being able to hold the kids! Especially when watching Daddy try to deal with both of them while working! but we will figure it out- and it will be over before we know it!

I have dissolving stitches- so they will just go away. They are covered in tape right now, so I will have to pull those off. But that is in 10 days- so they could fall off before then.

I am feeling good- just bruised and stiff, hopefully a good night sleep in my own bed will help. I am just grateful that the pain is gone!
