Brett and I decided to take Danika to the zoo yesterday. She was up at 6:30- so we were ready to go by 9- which is when it opens. We decided not to take the camera- just to go and enjoy our day- we have so many pictures of the zoo anyways. We really regretted that decision later!
When we got there it was about 9:45. It wasn't too hot, it wasn't too busy- it was great. We were hoping that since we got there so early, and it wasn't too hot that the animals would actually be doing stuff. Boy were we surprised. We saw things that we have never seen before- and we have been going there for YEARS!!!
~ We saw the skunks in the Canadian Wilds area- we thought they just had the area set up and there were no skunks- but there are- two of them. The were eating, and digging, and walking all over the place
~ Then we saw the buffalo actually moving- not just laying there! They also had a baby- it looks just like a calf!
~ We saw some owls- close enough to touch (scared me- but was still really cool)
~ Then at the otters- the otter was CRAZY- jumping in the water, swimming, running- it was great. Then he came to the glass where Danika was standing and "played" with her- she LOVED that
~ Then we came to the bears- one of the bears starting walking, backwards, on his 2 feet in the water. There was water everywhere! He then was running and jumping on the logs, and then fought with the other bear! Then he came right to the edge and was chewing the cage! We were about 3 feet away!
~ The prairie dogs were all out- being too cute!
~ The hippos were outside, and one was standing up chewing a log- right at the edge of the fence!
~ The giraffes were all outside, the baby one was trying to reach some leafs- so we got to see him extending his head and neck- WOW! Then he stood on a stump to reach! The ostriches that were in with them were running all over!
~ The lemurs were playing, so were the tigers!
~ Danika LOVED the elephants, ducks, and camels- she was laughing, and yelling and SQUEALING at them!
We had lunch, and walked around- seeing almost everything the zoo had to offer- when we got back in the truck it was 2:00! We couldn't believe it! Danika held up, she was actually very well behaved- especially for being up for that long!
It was a wonderful day at the zoo- next time we go though, we are taking the camera and the video camera! And going at the same time!
