What a Christmas!

Well I know some of you have been waiting patiently for a new post. As well as an update on how our Christmas went. Well it went alright, it flew by so fast, actually faster than we thought considering the state we were in. Here is the short version of what happened on our last Christmas as a couple (next year it will be the first family Christmas).
We left our house on Christmas eve, dropped Brody and gifts off at my dads. We then proceded to get lunch (Pizza Hut). At lunch Brett asked if I had his wallet (I know he is a bit late for that). I didn't, so we had to drive all the way back from the north end of Calgary to our house to get his wallet. We had planned on being at his parents in Stathmore at 3, by this point it was 3. We got to his parents house at around 4:30, and had a visit. At around 5- if you haven't heard this story yet- you may want to sit down! At around 5, I had to go to the washroom, and that is when the pain started. I was in horrible pain, I tried to have a bath, and that didn't work. The pain felt like the worst gas pains ever- we thought I was constipated- since that is a common thing with pregnancy. So Bretts Dad went to find a open store to get a laxitive- in Strathmore on Christmas eve. He did find on- but it seemed to take hours. I took one of those- but the pain was getting worse. I finally asked Brett to call Health link to see what they had to say. They told us to get to the hospital.
So away we went- without doing any christmas celebrating. We arrived at the hospital at around 8pm, and actually got in to see a doctor at about 20 after. They treated me with a couple things, by this time I am in so much pain, it felt like someone was tearing my insides out with a knife, and trying to ring them out on the way out. We had no idea what was up with the baby, or what was going on in general. They gave me a lime slurpee type thing-which came back up. They tried some needles, and other things for the pain- and for constipation- nothing was working. At midnight- Bretts mom and sister came to visit us, we were pretty sure we were going home soon, so we told them we would meet them there. At 12:30 am a nurse came in saying she had to do blood work- we weren't sure why- but since the pain was back we let her. Then- excuse my language- all hell broke loose!
Two nurses came in about 5 minutes later saying nothing except they needed to get IV's into my arms. I was screaming, Brett was worried, and I kept asking what was happening- but no one would reply. When the one nurse on the right "hit a wall" in my vein, she asked Brett to hold the gauze and put pressure on it. He grabbed my hand- then immediately his head hit my chest, as I screamed his name, he fell back hitting his head on the door, and the floor, knocking himself out. The nurses immediately left me sitting there, and called for help. They realized his head was bleeding, got IV's into his arms, and tried to wake him up. After many people called his name, he finally woke up, and wanted to get off the floor- he sounded drunk. They had me tell him I was okay, and listen to the doctors. They then told me that he needed stitches in his head, but would be okay. And that I was going by ambulance to Calgary to get more tests done, because they were thinking it was either my appendix, or a tubal pregnancy. I asked them to call Bretts parents back to the hospital, and call my dad to meet me at the hospital in Calgary, since Brett had to stay there for awhile.
Bretts parents live about 5 minutes away, and they told me that by the time they got to the hospital they had to change Bretts sheets 3 times, because of all of the blood. The doctor let me call my dad myself to explain what was going on. Brett ended up with a concusion, had memory loss, and 8 staples in his head. They actually said he was so cute, because they had to tell him that he was married, and having a baby, and he was so excited. He really had no idea why he was in the hospital- so they decided to keep him over night, and his parents promised to bring him to visit me in the hospital in Calgary as soon as he was out.
So away I went in the ambulance to calgary. My dad met me there (Thankfully, so I wasn't alone). We made it there in about 20 minutes, which is kind of crazy, but nice. The doctors had given me morphine before I left Strathmore, but it was wearing off- by now it is about 3 am. So I was squeezing dads hand, until the doctor could come in and give me more. The doctor checked everything out, and she was thinking it was appendix, she said the baby was fine though. But I couldn't get in for an ultrasound until around 8am, so we should try to rest. At around 7, the nurse came in and told me not to use the washroom, because I would be going for an ultrasound soon. So we were excited. We got news from Strathmore that Brett was being released and coming to Calgary. So that was good news. Brett arrived at around 11:30, and dad decided to go home for a while. We got in for an ultrasound at 12:30, after not being able to use the washroom for hours, and I hadn't eatten since 2 the day before- and having half an hour sleep- it was crazy! The ultrasound revealled that the baby was perfectly fine, and so was my appendix- but I had 2 cysts on my overy- a result of the fertility drugs. They were very large, and the baby was running into them. So it made things fun. They gave me more morphine, and tylenol 3 to help with the pain, and I was sent home.
Brett and I finally got to Dads at around 3ish (I think- lots of drugs). We got to open gifts, and have Christmas dinner (which I ate 3 bites and had to lay down again). We thankfully were able to stay at my dads for a couple days, until Brett was feeling well enough to drive. Then Wednesday Dad drove us to Strathmore to get our car. We stopped at Bretts parents to do our christmas stuff then. But we got snowed in, and had to spend the night there too! We are thankful for our families, but couldn't wait to get home. Finally Thursday we made it home. Brett with a headache, and me in pain, but we did it.
Thankfully everyone was understanding when we had to cancel our open house. Brett and I have had some time off- I am feeling better (as of January 3), Brett got his staples out today- and still has a bit of a headache. Brett is back to work tomorrow, and me on monday.

I guess Christmas is about family- and we are so thankful we had ours to be there with us when we couldn't be together. And we are thankful that they were there to help take care of us while we were in pain! We really did get everything we wanted for Christmas this year- a happy healthy baby, and our health! (Along with the great gifts- which we need to thank everyone again for, since we have gone through them, and sort of re openned without the pain medication!)
Remember this is the short version- if we haven't got to you yet to explain it- it is coming, or you could get to us and ask!

Happy New Year Everyone- we wish everyone a safe, healthy new year!
