Well, many things have happened since I last posted. The good news is, I am home and recovering from a very successful stem cell transplant.
As I sit here typing this, I think of the things I have gone through in the past 4 months and even I can't believe it.
In November I was just having pains. Then I was told it was Leukemia. My world came crashing down- but I knew I had to keep things together for my family.
December things looked better, I got to be home with the kids for Christmas and that was great.
January was alright, busy as we were packing to move, and doing appointments etc.
February I had a seizure and mom came back out to stay with us to help out, which was good because there were a few nights I had to spend in the hospital.
We also found out that I would be having a stem cell transplant. My brother and I were a 10/10 match, so they were going to do it. Of course it was our decision- but with the way they were talking, why wouldn't we. But that also meant being away from the kids for a long time. Luckily mom said she would stay and stay with them, so Brett could stay with me.
At the end of February things got busy. Ryan had his new baby girl- Brooklyn Marlene- born on February 24th. This was also the same day that he had to go in to give his stem cells- he was very tired!
I checked into the hospital the next day and was able to come back and forth for the week. But then I was in for awhile.
On March 5th I was given my new stem cells- from my brother, for which I will be forever thankful. It was a crazy, weird experience- very hard to explain. After that I went through some issues, mainly thrush in my mouth- which was tough. But the doctors were really happy and not even 20 days after I was able to come home. I was discharged at 17 days, and am now just a patient at Tom Baker Cancer Center. I go in 2 times a week to get checked and make sure all my levels are good. This time will come down as time goes on.
Now I just have to get my strength back, which will be tough- but I will be working on it. Mom went home today after being here for almost 2 months- which we are so thankful that she was able to do it. It was tough seeing her go home, but we know she is just an hour away by plane if needed- plus we have so many family and friends here that are willing to help us, so we will be good, we just have to get into our routine again.
Now how do we do that????
