A proud Mommy!

Since Danika was little, I would talk to her in some Spanish. Now, I am not that great. I took it in high School and in College (and of course, what we learned from Dora and Diego!). But, I was never that great at French. Brett was, I wasn't. So, we just didn't really use French.

When we signed Danika up for Kindergarten, they explained that they do french at the school. Starting in Kindergarten, they do 45 minutes per week (all at once). Then work their way up to longer/more each school year. In my mind, I thought that was great. She would learn another language. I didn't expect to see what I have seen.

Last Wednesday, I was able to volunteer in Danika's class. It just so happened that it was their day for French. So, I went along. I was SO impressed with their teacher (a different French only teacher). She talks to the kids only in French, and they actually get it. Sometimes she has to repeat, and show them, but she is so kind and so patient. If they have a question, or she asks them who wants to turn off the lights, or us the smart board- she has them repeat what the question would be in French.

Well, I was blown away when I learned that the class had only been in there 4 times! It was actually the 4th time in there when I was there. And they are AMAZING! They know numbers, greetings, colours and shapes! They asked questions, did activities- all in FRENCH!

I did notice that the teacher was using the smart board for a few songs. So, tonight, I pulled up the songs on YouTube. (the smart boards are linked to apple laptops of some sort, and the projected onto a screen that is interactive- they can draw, throw things at it, touch it etc- it is amazing!)

Tonight, we sang some of the songs, and of course, I had to tape her to share with the world!

I am so proud of how quickly she picks this stuff up!
