Edmonton

This weekend, the four of us headed out Saturday morning and went up to Edmonton. Brett decided almost at the last minute that he wanted to do the marathon there. He decided this when I was in BC, so I asked him to plan it- book the hotel etc.

It wasn't until Friday that I found out he found a super 8 that was "in between" the race start and the mall. And then when I looked it up- realized it was called Super 8- Truckland- which is right in the middle of a huge industrial area, and right next to the highway! Well, we couldn't change it- so we had to suck it up. Which also meant waking the kids up at 6am to get him to the race on time!

The ride up was a very nice one- the grass is so green right now! We got into Edmonton just after 11, and picked up his race stuff. Then, with a quick stop at the hotel, we went to the mall and went into the waterpark! That place always impresses! We don't have any pictures- because of course we were all enjoying the slides and the waves. The kids got so brave though- even going down the slides by themselves. And even eventually started enjoying the spray park area- even though the water was in their faces! The waves- which are scary at first became one of their favourite things to do! It took some warm up time- but they got into it more than I ever thought they would! And after just almost 5 hours in there, it was a fight to get them out to go have dinner!

Today (sunday) we got up very early and drove Brett to his race. After dropping him off- the kids and I went over to a McDonalds with a play place- yeah, there is not much to do at that hour on a Sunday! We played there until about 9, then went over to the Edmonton Zoo. We haven't heard too many good things about it- but it opened at 9:30, wasn't too expensive and would give the kids something to do until we had to meet Brett. It was actually better than I would have thought. I mean, we have been to the vancouver zoo- and this was 100 times better! The highlight for me was seeing the armadillo- man they are fast! The kids were impressed with everything- even when the seal jumped at them at the window!

I got a few pictures from the zoo, and also two from Brett almost at the finish line! I am so proud of him, he was hoping to do it in under 4 hours- and he did! We were all so proud of him and happy that we made it back in time to see him cross the finish line!
