VACATION!!

Vacations are always nice to go on. It is nice to get away, enjoy yourselves and your family, and see some new things. The kids and I just returned from a vacation. We went to see my mom, but instead of flying there and back, we flew there and then drove back with my mom stopping in a few places.

We spent from Thursday until Tuesday at my moms. We, unfortunately, had to cancel many of the plans we had due to the weather not being so great. BUT, we did find some great places to go to on not so nice of days. We enjoyed some time at the beach, mainly walking and eating because it was a bit too cold still. We also found a great place called Art Knapp's- it is a green house that sells garden type stuff, and plants, but also has a train ride, along with trains for kids (and adults) to watch. They have mini golf (although we didn't do that), a playground, and many types of birds (that are actually for sale!)- they had chickens, roosters, ducks, pigeons, and even peacocks! The kids had a blast there. We could have stayed longer, but had to get back to the beach to watch the hockey game! We enjoyed visits with friends and family, and had some fun with Grandma's Dog Hardy (I am sure he is happy to see us go!).

Tuesday we got in moms car and headed to Trail, BC to visit with some family. We haven't been back to Trail in about 12 years. So it was time. We stopped in Osoyoos on the way, it is a beautiful city, where the weather is almost always good, so we were able to go in the lake for a bit! We then continued on to Trail. We had a good visit there, and a great meal. We had a swim in the pool (we had been promising the kids that we could go to the hotel pools to swim since they were indoor and we couldn't get to the beach to swim)- well that swim was quick, because it was so cold! On our way out of town Wednesday morning we stopped by the cemetery to give my Grandma, great grandma and Great Grandpa some flowers. That was harder than we thought for both of us. I really wanted to take the kids there, but it was raining pretty hard, so we left them in the car. Mom and I both had a cry, and a little talk with Grandma, and then said another good-bye to a woman who meant so much to both of us.

Wednesday we were in Vernon. We again visited with some family, had a great dinner and watched the hockey game. When we got back to our beautiful hotel, we watched the horrible "fans" trash Vancouver after the Canucks lost the cup. Thursday we went to Davison Orchards in Vernon. It was AMAZING! We got to feed goats, and a donkey (they had sheep, but they were pretty quick for the kids!), they played at the playground, sand box, maze etc. Then we got some great treats on the way out! Then we stopped at a honey farm. That was pretty interesting too! And taste testing all the honey's was yummy! We ate lunch on the beach- again too cold to actually be at the beach! Then we had dinner with my Uncle Bill and Auntie Shirley at our hotel this time, and off to bed! (Mom and I tried to sneak mini apple crumble pies that we bought from the orchard, but I had to share with Danika because she would NOT fall asleep!)

Friday we got up early and headed home. We made great time and were back at home around 3:30. We were happy to be home, but also sad that the holiday was over. Mom is here for a few more days and then will drive back with a friend of hers. We are off for another week and will get some things done around here!

This holiday meant so much to me. I love visiting mom, but I got to share a part of my childhood with my kids. It was wonderful watching their faces in places that I used to visit as a kid. I had a road trip with them, and that is something that I did many, many times as a kid. It was great to look back and see them enjoying themselves in the back seat. If we did nothing on our holiday, just watching them in the back seat enjoying the drive would have made it all worth it!
