updates:

Sorry it took so long- but here is the updates, as they happened- as I remember (it has been a week and I am very tired- so I will try my best)

Friday May 8th- 2:30am- Bryce was taken to the NICU from the nursery because he turned blue (still don't know why, or if he did stop breathing etc)

7:00am- I was given a phone number to call over there. I really don't remember what they told me other than he was doing okay- they were watching his breathing and think that he has water on his lungs still

during the day- Brett and I visited a couple times alone. Took mom back there- all seemed well

Around 5:30pm- Dad and Sharon came for a visit, we went back and were told that maybe within a few hours they would have to put him on a ventilator. When we came out of the NICU mom was there with Danika

About 6pm- Brett took mom to the NICU to see Bryce. They got there- and were told they couldn't be there- they had to put him on a ventilator right away. (SCARY)

Around 7pm- Bretts parents came up for a visit, and after talking with them we decided we needed some answers. We still hadn't been told anything really- some nurses were using the word PPHN, and others had said water on the lungs- so the three of them went to talk with the nurse. They weren't allowed in- but then the nurse did come to talk to them. Basically they were told that when a baby is in utero the heart beats one way- when they come out it turns around- Bryce's didn't turn. So we were in for an emotional night.

Around 10pm- Brett and I went back down to see him. Staying only for a few minutes to let him rest.

Saturday May 9th-

8am- when I got up Brett was there, and we went to see Bryce. We were told he was doing good and his oxygen was being turned down (I really don't remember any of the numbers anymore)

10am- mom came to visit and went to see Bryce while Brett took Danika down for a treat.

12pm- Brett and I went down to see him again. After talking with his nurse- we realized we were in for a while. So on the way back to the room I decided I wanted to go home. I knew that I could be with Danika, and that would help pass the time.

2pm- Bretts parents came for a visit and got to actually see him. I stayed in the room to talk to the nurse about going home.

3pm- Dad and Sharon came by- I filled out my papers and got ready to go home (Hardest thing I have EVER had to do in my life). Then Brett and I went back over to visit Bryce again before heading home.

Sunday May 10th-

9am- we drove up to the hospital to see Bryce. We were told that he is looking good. Numbers were starting to come down (oxygen, fentinol). So that was good. And his nurse made me a mothers day card with his foot prints in it!

We did go back up later to see him, and his numbers were still coming down

Monday May 11th- usual day- we went up twice and things were looking good. In the evening my milk started coming in- which was nice because that will help him.

Tuesday May 12th-we got to the hospital to find out that they were taking the ventilator off. It was a good day. After they took it off they had to give him some meds for his throat (just through a mask type thing for a minute) because is was so rough and swollen. We were also told that the fentinol would be turned down 0.5 every 12 hours until it was done!

Wednesday May 13- Bryce had to go on CPAP because he was struggling a bit with breathing. It is a little hat with a lego man type mask that just goes over his nose. Brett HATES that hat- but it is good for him

Thursday May 14th- they had taken the mask off and put his nasal prongs back in. He is a week old today. When Brett and I came in the evening they had moved him over to the special care nursery- we were shocked not to see a baby in his bed when we got there- but then VERY happy when they told us where he was. We got to hold him and cuddle him- it was a great night.

Friday May 15th- When I called in the morning they told me they had to put him back on CPAP. It wasn't a great feeling for me- but I knew it would help him. We all packed up to go to the hospital. When we got there we decided that Danika could come and see him. So Brett brought her in- she did really good. Was really quiet. And when she saw his computer screen showing his vitals- she said "My show". When Brett went to take her back out- and let mom come in- the nurse told me that they were putting him back in the NICU- just to be watched more carefully- because he is struggling and working really hard to breath. I lost it. I was crying. We were also told that they did an xray and he is showing water on his lungs again- so they were going to give him a medication that helps that dry up- or come out. Mom didn't stay in long and went to get Brett. He didn't take the news well either. But it is better for Bryce to be watched 1 on 1 instead of 1 on 4. We left and had lunch then came back. He still hadn't been moved so they let me hold him for a while- then they moved him. He now has a window in his area! He was still doing a ton of work to breath- but that will get better. We stayed for a while and just watched him. Then we decided to come home for a quiet night and get some rest- this is exhausting for us too!

Saturday May 16th- I called this morning and his nurse told me he is doing good. They have decided to cut back on his feeds because he is spitting up. And his oxygen has been turned down again- so that is good. She did say that we will have a hand full when he comes home- because he was up crying for most of the night. We are going in a little later this morning and will hopefully have more info....

(updates to continue as we get them)
